Setting up two-factor authentication
Updated July 19, 2026
Two-factor authentication (2FA) asks for a rotating 6-digit code from your phone in addition to your password, so a stolen password alone can’t open your account.
- 1Go to Account, then Security, and find Two-factor authentication.
- 2Scan the QR code with an authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password.
- 3Enter the 6-digit code the app shows to confirm setup.
- 4Save your backup codes somewhere safe. Each works once if you ever lose your phone.
Store those backup codes
Backup codes are your way in if your phone is lost or replaced. Keep them in a password manager or printed somewhere secure. Anyone with a code can use it, and each code works exactly once.
You can also add a passkey (Face ID, Touch ID, or a security key) in the same Security section for password-free sign-in.
